Growing opportunities in Golden Bay
Since 1999, we’ve been working in
partnership with local businesses,
Iwi and the people of Golden Bay to
farming areas in the region.
If the proposed marine farming area goes ahead,
a 20% share of our farm area will be gifted to The
Golden Bay Community Trust which MacLab and
others have established. This charitable trust was
established for the sole benefit of the Golden Bay
community and will primarily focus on support of
education, protecting the environment, public
health, the provision of recreational facilities, culture,
heritage and arts.
In addition to the revenue generated by the trust which
will flow into the community, the proposed farm will
positively contribute to Golden Bay’s sustainable
growth and provide more local jobs. More
widely it will strengthen New Zealand manufacturing
and processing industries, the national economy
and exports.
A new vessel
on the horizon
To complement our existing fishing fleet,
we’re working in collaboration with a leading
New Zealand boat building company to
create a brand-new fishing boat.
Measuring 32 metres long with the capacity
to harvest up to 70 tonnes of mussels a day,
this new vessel has been specially designed
to handle the challenging conditions of our
open water farms in Tasman and Golden Bay.
